Hi Marc, nice to meet you. First of all: what are your impressions of the european tour so far?
Oh, the feedback was great. We are very satisfied, you know. We did big festivals on this tour, and the crowd was totally into it, was crazy for the new songs. Yeah, that's great.
You did the Full Force Festival, right?
Yeah, that was awesome, very good too. We played with a lot of other metal bands, you know. All festivals were great for us. We had a great time playing with all the other bands, there were a lot of great bands around us at each festival, you know.
What do you like more: doing little clubshows like this evening or big festivals?
I like both, you know. I think that both are really cool. The festivals are obviously unbelievable, because of the amount of people, that are in front of you, you know. On the down side of it you really don't get a soundcheck or set up your equipment and take time. It's basically just get off there and just let it rip, you know what I mean. But it's intensive, the festivals are intensive. But I also love doing the small clubs like today. I like both. It's cool that you can do a festival on one day and the next day do a small club, you know. Yeah, it's cool to do both.
Maybe just because of the fact that you can easy get in touch with the fans this evening?
Yeah, exactly. It's gonna be more intimate this evening, you know. At clubs like this evening we get a soundcheck, take our time. So it's kinda more for our die hard fans, you know. At festivals there are lots of other people who haven't heard about SOULFLY before and are hearing us for the very first time. Yeah, club shows are cool. But I also look forward to playing at the Wacken Open Air the next weeks. It' gonna be great, too. All festivals in europe were awesome and this will gonna be another great one, you know.
Are there any bands you would like to support on tour?
Iron Maiden, Van Halen, Morbid Angel, and just Slayer, basically all bands I grew up with.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of Slayer and still can't wait any longer 'til "Christ illusion" is gonna be released, you know.
Me too, man, it's gonna be awesome!
What is your favourite song on "Dark ages" and just why?
"Frontlines" is my favourite one, just because it's a lot of fast guitar playing, you know, a lot of fast drumming. It's got guitar-solos, every element of music that I like is in it. And what's your favourite one?
Oh, "Frontlines", too, but I mostly like "I and I" just because of the heavy guitar riffing style, you know. Are you working on new material for the next album?
Not really, not yet. We have been talking about stuff, you know, but we haven't put anything together yet. But I'm sure we will do soon, definately.
Will the songwriting turn more in the hardcore or metal direction?
Oh, I think it will be just like "Dark ages", you know. "Dark ages" is a combination of these two styles, hardcore and thrash metal. It's just gonna be like you saw the growth from "Prophecy" to "Dark ages". I think the next record will show more growth compared to "Dark ages".
What is going on in SOULFLY when you have finished the european tour?
We will go home for a little while, then we will go into a us-tour, and after that we play some shows in australia. We will be on tour for the rest of the year, you know.
I heard about your solo project and that you will go on tour with Alex Skolnick?
Yeah, I have a solo project on Shrapnel Records, it's called Marc Rizzo, the record is called "Colossal Myopia". It's an instrumental album with a mix of shred, classical and flamenco guitar, also a lot of latin percussion. After the SOULFLY-tour I finish a mini-tour with Alex Skolnick's band.
Okay Marc, thanks for the interview.
Yeah, see you at the show!
